remarks=Just Received the Hi-Fi CD and I believe I now have everything Iain released except the one with Pyramid. I just read that the concert in "Bonedale" (Carbondale, Co.)IS out on DVD!! Is it available through Perfect Pitch? I was at that concert with my son who was learning guitar at the time and Iain took time at the break to talk to him and encourage him. Thank you Iain!! He's still at it! My all time Favorite singer/songwriters are still: Iain, Gene Clark, Eric Anderson, Rick Danko, Tom Rush. That's the Top Level. I have about 1000 other favorites but not of the Top Level. Used to live on the side of a mountain in Colorado for 30 years but now I'm sitting by my lake listening to the loons for the last few times this year. Thanks for the CD collection. Don't stop recording!!! Your friend , Tom

remarks=Finally, "1944" is available SOMEWHERE -- well, at least 1:46 of it.  Check out the four IM songs shown excerpted at
http://youtube.com/watch?v=i7SCCLl9t10
He's joined by Simon Nicol (of Matthews Southern Comfort and Fairport Convention) on cuts 1 and 3, and Richard Thompson (likewise) on cut 2.
The beginning and end of "1944" are both truncated, but just listen to that voice!  As has been said so many times before, the voice of an angel...

remarks=Iain,
Loved seeing you at Cropredy. You referenced a show that you did in Philidelphia on you last US tour and that led to the song "Contact". I was one of twelve people in the audience in Lawrence, MA on that tour. Despite the small audience, my wife and I were blown away by your performance. You sang your heart out that night and set an example for integrity in the music business that I had never witnessed. While we miss you here in the US, I wish you the best in your European career

We were in Cambrinus last night(24-01-2007) and saw and heard your comeback on stage.
We realy want to tell you that we are very glad we were there and we enjoyed the perfomance very much.
Sometimes it was tender, sometimes virtuoso (i hope its the right word for what i want to say) but always fascinating in every way. Also thanks to Mike Roelofs and BJ Baartmans of course.
Your cold gave your voice sometimes a new dimension!
Its a good thing to have you back a bit,for all the people who love music.
Wish you all the best.

Have had to glean a few things by enquiries and the website has been quiet to say the least. The English dates don't seem to exist. Sad, because I regard Iain as one of the best English singer/songwriters, as do others. Of course, Iain has every right to live his life, hope to see and hear him again.

remarks=Back in 1978 I was 17 when a record called "Hit & run" hit me. I fell in love with that album, and I tried to find out more about who that unknown guy Ian Matthews was. I found nothing (it was not an easy search in Spain at the time). Years passed without further notice, until recently, when digitalizing my old vynil collection, I met the record again. I thought that this time I'd find out; just a few clicks away I was astonished to see that the man I thought to be nowhere was one of the most creative and prolific singers/songwriters of our time. I ordered one record by chance, which happened to be Skeleton Coast. I couldn't believe my ears: every song was a masterpiece. Since then I'm slowly discovering Ian's collection, which is an infinite pleasure.
Outstanding Iain's career can only be equaled to a short range of musicians. Why Iain's talent has gone so low profiled through the years is a mystery to me. This is a complaint! (a pleasant one for sure)

I'd certainly go see him if he ever toured and came to Aberdeen, Scotland

Besides his earlier albums, the Southern Comfort series and from "Saw Thro My Eyes" to "Stealing Home" and "Pure and Crooked" to "God Looked Down", his Plainsong series and his colaboration with Elliot Murphy are my favourites. "Zumbach's Coat" might be going a bit commercial like it's predessessors "Spot Of Indifference" and Shook". All in all, Iain's music is magic.

I guess you get tired of people telling you how your music has gotten them through difficult times, but I don't care!
From the late 60's and early 70's your compositions and covers have been an inspiration. Back then I would listen to "Some Days Your Eat The Bear..." over and over and over.

To this day my fav album is the compilation "The Soul Of Many Places The Elecktra Years 1972-1974."
Thanks for all the sweet sweet sounds Iain.

remarks=Hello,
I understand Iain is currently living in our beautiful province of Limburg. He's become a father and enjoys his family life and stopped(?)his life on the road. Perhaps a bit bold, but would he consider giving a concert in a very nice musicminded cafe in Maastricht, all equipment present, he would only have to bring his guitar. Michael Chapman played there last year and it was a great night. Many years ago I went to see Iain Matthews Southern Comfort in Maastricht, but by then Iain had left the band. Always hoped to hear him play his wonderful music in Maastricht though.
Hoping for an answer, any answer.

remarks=I'm excited about the HI-FI collection due out from Blue Rose.(although I have these recordings) HI-FI was a great band in the Power Pop mode.I'd like to see a collection of any rarites left from the band. Iain mentions in his CD Orphans and Outcasts Vol.2 that he has a live set by Hi-FI recorded in Edmonton Alberta in 1981 that contains a song called Albatross and the set opener "Mr. Soul". HI-FI recorded a couple of songs after David Surkamp left (I think 4) that were never released. So the live set, these unreleased songs, the song Better Not Stay etc. would make for an interesting release. Perhaps fans of Iain's can encourage this! Thanks and I enjoyed your show at the Narrows last year (Fall River, MA)

And the song "Thrill of it all".I think HI-Fi was a great power pop band! Please consider it!

on to Ian Matthews back in 1973. We
received a promotional copy at our radio
station in Salinas, Calif. I still have
that copy. (Yes, it still sounds
excellent, notwithstanding all the
terrible things people have been told about vinyl in recent years, but that's
another story.) I've been a fan all
these years, through many albums and
record labels. My overall favorite
would have to be Some Days You Eat the
Bear on Elektra from 1974. Many
people are evidently unaware of his
wonderful Windham Hill release from
the late 80's, that label's first ever
vocal release. I met Ian following
an appearance at a club in San Jose
in 1976. Just found the website
today believe it or not.

It's the real gem on that album, the most gorgeous duet with Sandy Denny, which points up an oft-neglected part of what made the very early Fairport so special (yes, and Byrds-like): the wonderful gentle harmony between these two voices. Sandy's distinctive and simple piano also adds so much to it. I'm really hoping someone will put it on the next Sandy Denny rarities album...

remarks=I've just seen you yesterday evening at the New Morning in Paris and it was the most beautiful show i've been attending for quite a long time. I'm now forty-six and I've been interested in your work for about 32 years now. In the early seventies I used to go to London to buy folk records at Dobell's or HMV. It's the time I discovered those beautiful records : " If you saw through my eyes" and "In search of Amelia Earhart" as well as your first solo album and those with the "Matthew's Southern Comfort". When I saw your name associated to Elliot Murphy, needless to say that I immediately bought a ticket for the show. To say the truth I've never had the opportunity to see you on stage before and I was a little bit afraid to see you after all these yars, you know the fear of being disappointed or something. I'm very glad to say that it was absolutely not the case and that I thought I was back in the seventies again. Your voice, singing and compositions are still among the !
most beautiful of the folk-rock scene. So, I would like to thank you for having come to France (welcome!) and for having illuminate the past thirty years of my life and that of many other listeners. Thank you too to your stage companions and good tour!
